Slot
Phasing
The feature contained no diagnostic material culture. Apart from being
sealed by spit 011AA00002, the slot had
no other stratigraphic relationships. If it is part of the same system
as 011AA00136 just to the nort, it
may be Middle Saxon in date, although it exibits a number of physical differences.
Discussion
The feature is located immediately to the south of a slot on the same alignment
(011AA00136), and is probably part
of the same enclosure system. It is different in one respect from the slot
to the north, in that it is deeper than all of the other slots in the complex.
The uniform fill was a sandy loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/3), with 10% chalk
inclusions.
The slot was cut into sand & gravel, with a vertical sided, flat-based
profile.
