Discussion

A narrow ditch originally believed to be a remnant plough furrow as it was clearly seen to cut all the other ditches in this area. However, the finds recovered (a copper alloy fragment and pottery) indicate that this is a ditch segment of Anglian date. The fill was a sandy clay loam with a high proportion of chalk inclusions. The fill was also interspersed with green unfired clay lenses, particularly in the east. The ditch was cut into solid chalk natural.
