Pit

Discussion

A small, round pit located just to the south of enclosure ditch 011AB10003. The pit fill was a dark (Munsell 10/YR/33) humic sandy clay loam, with around 15% chalk inclusions, and was cut into the solid chalk natural. Only 6 sherds of pottery were recovered, two being Romano-British, two non-diagnostic, and two Middle-Saxon, giving a terminus post quem for the pit. Other finds were burnt sandstone and a lump of calcite.
