Discussion

A small pit located just to the east of ditch 011AB00279, it appears likely that the pit was earlier than the ditch. Only one object (a Romano-British potsherd) and 2 cattle bones were recovered from the primary fill, which was a sandy silty loam (Munsell 10/YR/43). No finds were recovered from the secondary fill, which was a sandy gravel (Munsell 10/YR/44). It appears likely that the pit was filled by the alluvial action of the stream channel.
