Pit

Stratigraphic Sequence Diagram

Discussion

This was a pit which had disturbed a cremation burial. Not seen originally, the partial cremation pot was found in darker (Munsell 10YR 3/6) medium texture loamy sand. The pit was filled with a much redder, finer (Munsell 75YR 4/4) loamy sand, and contained 3 Anglian potsherds. The pit also contained a carbonized chenopodium shell, which may have derived from the cremation.
