Although no specifically diagnostic material was recovered (Niedermendig lava could possibly be earlier), the proximity to the ?granary structure would make this a Middle Saxon deposit.

Discussion

Although believed to be either a pit or part of enclosure ditch 011AB10005, this deposit caused some confusion for the excavators. The cut of the feature was very difficult to define, and this may have been a specific deposit associated with the ?granary 011BF10019 immediately to the east, rather than a cut feature. The finds of carbonised barley seeds was significant, and they occurred in some quantity both here and to the east, in a roughly linear distribution.
