Discussion

A very shallow feature cut into the lumpy natural chalk. It appears to be a slot-type feature although it was so truncated that this was difficult to determine. The feature was filled with a sandy clay loam (Munsell 10/YR/43) and had a high (50%) number of chalk inclusions. Although a number of animal bones were recovered, only 3 (all cattle bones) could be identified. Four objects were recovered, three of which were prehistoric in date, including one potsherd which could be dated to the Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age. The feature was slightly deeper at either end. There was no indication on the ground that the feature continued in either direction.
