Pit

Phasing

The pit is phased as Middle-Saxon by the identification of a Middle-Saxon potsherd.

Discussion

The pit is one of 2 pits (with 011AE00273) identified as Middle-Saxon in the immediate area. The amorphous area was initially thought to be a Grubenhaus, but excavation revealed this to be a series of animal burrows. However, a pit was located in the northern part of the amorphous area. The pit contained few finds and animal bones, one of which was part of a canine pelvis.
