?Animal Burrow

Discussion

The feature was an unusual shape, and although a small number of (unidentifiable) bones were recovered from the fill, it is most likely that this is an animal burrow. One find of naturally occurring iron was also recovered. The fact that this feature appears to follow a natural difference in the chalk (angular in the east and soft and rounded in the west) gives more weight to its interpretation as an animal burrow.
