Ring Ditch

This ring ditch was the only feature of its type in this part of the site (although four similar features were excavated in Area 11BC). Generally, the features are believed to be hayricks, although this feature is somewhat different from the others. It is slightly larger in circumference and almost twice as deep, and contains 2 prehistoric potsherds as well as a flint flake (a further two flint flakes were recovered directly above the feature in the cleaning spit 011AE00002). It contained twice as many objects as any of the others (including 5 snails) and also contained the only animal bone recovered from any of these features.
