Pit

Phasing

The pit has been phased as Middle Saxon based on the identification of 3 separate potsherds.

Discussion

The pit was initially identified as an amorphous feature situated some 14 metres to the south of the post-in-trench structure 011BC07049. Excavation showed that it was probably 2 conjoining pits.It is possible that these were refuse pits for the structure, and if this is the case they are paralleled by pits 011AB00888, 011AB00307 and 011AB00370 for structure 011AB10019 and by pit 012AE00032 for structure 012AE00061. However, like the other pits, the relative lack of animal bone may require further interpretation.
