Discussion

Two excavated segments of Roman ditch in central 11CD. The eastern segment was the only fully excavated part of the ditch. The ditch was thought to be equal to slot 011CD05657 to the west but this is more likely to be a separate, later feature cut through the top of the ditch. The two features were excavated as one in the western segment with the ditch not fully excavated. The slot (011CD05657) was seen on the ground to cut through possible Grubenhaus 011CD07119. The relationship of the structure to this ditch was not established although it is likely to be later. The ditch appears to terminate to the west but the eastern extent was not established. The geophysical survey of the area shows a very slight anomaly which may be the ditch heading eastward to the stream channel. No finds were recovered from the ditch.
