Pit

Phasing

No diagnostic material culture was recovered from this feature. The stratigraphic relationship with enclosure ditch 011CE07096 was not established, although as it was only noted during the excavation of the ditch (it was not visible on the surface), it appears likely that pit was cut by the ditch.

Discussion

This was a sub-rectangular pit, located in the south-eastern corner of area 11CE. The single fill was a sandy silty loam (Munsell colour 10YR 3/3), with 5% chalk inclusions. Daub flecking was noted. Some pottery may have been lifted under the ditch fill number.

The pit was cut into hillwash and natural chalk, with a U-shaped profile.
