Stone Setting

Phasing

No diagnostic material was recovered from the stone setting. It appeared to be cut by enclosure ditch 011CE20010, which would make the setting later Roman at the latest, although this is not clear from the record.

Discussion

This was a stone setting made up of limestone, sandstone, and locally obtained chalk and flint. There were no similar settings nearby, so it is not clear whether the setting was structural (ie acting as a post pad). They were removed before they were planned, although photographic records were taken.
