Discussion

A cleaning spit over the eastern half of area 11AA, the southern limit being defined by the sequence of 11AB ditches. The western half of the area contained only the remains of medieval furrows and did not require further cleaning. After the removal of this spit, only 2 small areas required further (011AA00029 and 011AA00172) cleaning, as many features became clearly defined. Very few finds were lifted under this number, as most finds could be allocated to a specific context. However, it is notable that 2 Roman coins were not able to be placed in a specific feature, even though they were found only about 2 metres apart.
