Discussion

An irregular sub-rectangular shaped pit defined under spit 012AC00001 and intersecting with enclosure ditch 012AC07211 on its northern side, although the stratigraphic relationship between  it and the ditch could not be established during excavation. The pit was defined as a possible small Grubenhaus during excavation based on its size and form and the association with two post holes (012AC00030 and 012AC00329) located on the inside edge of the north-east corner of the pit; there were no post holes on the opposite side of the pit. The stratigraphic relationship between the pit and the two post holes could not be established during excavation (neither were excavated in half-section). The pit possssed an irregular base cut into chalk which showed signs of weathering, particularly at the northern end of the feature.
