Phasing

Although no diagnostic material was recovered from the ditch, it has been tentatively assigned to the Anglian phase, as it may be part of a larger enclosure with 012AD00005, 012AD00007, 012AD00039 and 012AD00041.

Discussion

This area was exceptionally plough damaged, situated on a raised chalk area, and only the bases of the features remained, if not ploughed away completely. The deepest part of this feature measured 21cm, although most of it was less than 10cm in depth. The fill was a uniform sandy loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/3), with 10% chalk inclusions. The only finds were a small lump of charcoal and 4 small (unidentifiable) bone fragments.

The ditch was cut into chalk natural (both white and red chalk deposits)
