Phasing

The slot has been phased to the Middle Saxon period, as it appears to respect the south-eastern terminus of enclosure 012AD07227. The only diagnostic material from the slot was a flint flake and a Romano-British pot sherd.

Discussion

The fill of this short, slightly curvilinear slot was a sandy loam (Munsell 10YR 4/2) with less than 5% chalk inclusions (although some large fragments of chalk might indicate the presence of posts, this was not  verified during excavation. No charcoal flecking was noted, although some burnt daub was recovered. Only a single sheep/goat radius was found.

The slot was cut into chalk with a U-shaped profile, (a slight step was noted towards the eastern terminus).
