Phasing
No material culture was recovered from this feature. Although the slot
012AD00440
appears to cut through this feature, this was not seen during the excavation
phase. Apart from being sealed by spit 012AD00001,
the feature had no other stratigraphic relationships. Although classified
as a slot, a similar feature (012AD00452),
located one metre to the east, was classified as a pit.
Discussion
This was a very shallow feature, located on the eastern chalk edge of the
dry valley. It contained a single fill, a fine sandy loam (Munsell colour
10YR 4/3), with 30% chalk inclusions (1-10cm in diameter). No daub or charcoal
flecking were noted.
The feature was cut into chalk, and due to the plough truncation, the
profile was given as flat.
