Pit
Phasing
No diagnostic material was recovered from this feature. Although the slot
012AD00440
appears to cut through this feature, this was not seen during the excavation
phase. Apart from being sealed by spit 012AD00001,
the feature had no other stratigraphic relationships. A similar feature
(012AD00450),
was located one metre to the east.
Discussion
This was a very shallow feature, located on the eastern chalk edge of the
dry valley. It contained a single fill, a sandy loam (Munsell colour 10YR
4/3), with5-10% chalk inclusions. No daub or charcoal flecking were noted.
The only find was a chip of the locally occurring flint.
The feature was cut into chalk, and due to the plough truncation, the
profile was given as flat.
