Spit 012AD05006 was in effect a sample trench (25 metres long by 3.3 metres wide) situated just to the east of the field boundary at the western edge of area 12AD. It was placed to test for the return of the rectilinear feature found in trench 13AB. As it happened, the area was badly plough truncated, as well as having been quite severely rooted, and only very fragmentary remains were recovered. However, it did not look likely that the large, deep feature found in trench 13AB came this far east. If this is the case, then the edge of the large feature must be under the current field boundary. The fragmentary remains of three plough-truncated ditches were found in this trench. Ditch 012AD05003 was very fragmentary, contained no finds, and was probably the last remnant of this plough truncated ditch. Although the other 2 features were also severely truncated, it was possible to establish that ditch 012AD05001 cut through ditch 012AD05005. Only 1 object and 3 animal bones were found in the trench. The object was a copper alloy staple found in ditch 012AD05000. Due to the very shallow, fragmentary remains of the features, no sections were drawn.
