Pit

Phasing

The only diagnostic finds were a later Roman pot sherd and a transparent green fragment of glass (which the excavator believed to be modern). Apart from being sealed by spit 012AD00001, no stratigraphic relationships with the surrounding features were established.

Discussion

This shallow pit was located on the chalk western edge of the dry valley. It contained a single fill (012AD05013), a sandy clay loam (Munsell colour 10YR 3/2) with a high chalk inclusion rate (40-50%). No daub or charcoal flecking were noted.

The feature was cut into angular chalk with a U-shaped profile.
