Discussion

The spit was excavated to define a series of north-south aligned ditches, just to the east of pebble surface 012AD01005. The material removed was a sandy loam (Munsell colour 10 YR 3/2). No daub or charcoal flecking was noted. In the event, the ditches were clearly defined enough to assign most of the finds to the individual features, with only those between the ditches being lifted under this number.
