Discussion

Feature 012AD05356 was possibly the remains of a small kiln. Although the feature was not excavated (merely cleaned back for planning), it was apparent that a stony clay and burnt daub layer (collapsed walls?) were lying above a platform of burnt chalk fragments. Feature 012AD05358 has been included with this master as it may have had a functional relationshiup with the kiln, situated as it was immediately to the east of the burnt deposit. It was filled with sandy silty loam (Munsell colour 10YR 3/3), with 10% chalk inclusions and occasional charcoal flecking.
