Slot
Phasing
The only find was a single sherd of Romano-British pottery. The slot was
sealed by spit 012AD00590. No stratigraphic
relationship was established with similar slot 012AD05416
to the west.
Discussion
This shallow slot was located on the western edge of the dry valley. It
is unusual in that it appears to form the western halk of a small enclosure
or pen (no trace of the eastern part was seen during the excavation phase,
although the geophysical data indicates a slight anomaly which could be
related). The fill was a silty clay loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/3), with
20% chalk inclusions. No daub or charcoal flecking were noted.
The slot was cut into fragmented angular chalk natural and hillwash,
with a U-shaped profile.
