Pit
Phasing
The pit contained no diagnostic material culture. Apart from being sealed
by spit 012AD00590, the feature had
no other stratigraphic relationships. The pit was directly in line with
post hole 012AD05548 and ditch 012AD05660,
and may have had a functional relationship with these features.
Discussion
This was a small pit which contained a single fill (012AD05449),
a sandy clay loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/3), with 15% chalk inclusions.
Both daub and charcoal flecking were noted. Only animal bones were recovered,
even though the pit was excavated in its entirety.
The pit was cut into natural chalk, with a V-shaped profile.
