Pit

Discussion

This feature was located exactly at the point where enclosure ditch 012AD07228 veered from a north-south to an east-west orientation. It may relate to the placement of a post at this point, although no postpipe was visible. The stratigraphic relationship with ditch 012AD07228 was not established. The only diagnostic finds were three Romano-British sherds. The fill was a sandy loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/2) with 10% chalk inclusions. Both daub and charcoal flecks were noted. The animal bone recovered was mainly cattle, although single dog and sheep bones were also found.

The ?pit/posthole was cut into hillwash with a V-shaped profile.
