Phasing

A single find of late Roman pottery was the only diagnostic find from this feature. (The context record indicates iron was also present, although this was not in the finds database). It was sealed by spit 012AD00385. Its relationship with ditch 012AD07230 was not established.

Discussion

A vaguely linear stone setting, although no extension of this feature was found, making it unlikely to be part of a wall footing. The feature itself was no excavated, only cleaned back for planning, The finds were recovered during this cleaning. The soil matrix was a fine sandy loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/2). It was located within a group of post holes (012AD07257).
