Slot

Phasing

The only diagnostic finds were two late Romano-British sherds. The slot cut through the north-western part of an unexcavated pebble surface. Apart from being sealed by spit 012AD00650, the slot had no other stratigraphic relationships.

Discussion

This was one of a number of short slots Click here to see an outline plan of the slots in red located within the large southern enclosure. It contained a single fill (012AD08074), a sandy loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/3), with 15% chalk inclusions (0.5-1.5cm in diameter). No daub or charcoal flecking were noted.

The slot was cut into hillwash with a round-based V profile.
