Discussion

Only a part of this feature was excavated, so its true shape remains unknown. It appeared to be part of a much larger, amorphously shaped feature. Its fill (012AD08495) was a redeposited natural chalk (40-50%), in a mixed sandy gravel/sandy loam matrix (Munsell colour 10YR 4/4). No daub or charcoal flecking were noted.

The pit was cut into sand & gravel. The segment excavated indicated a flat-based U profile.
