Phasing

The pit contained no diagnostic material culture. The relationship with ditch 012AD07228 to the east was not established. Apart from being sealed by spit 012AD00539, the pit had no other stratigraphic relationships.

Discussion

The pit was located on the eastern edge of the dry valley. It contained a single fill (partly removed under ditch fill number 012AD00730), a sandy clay loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/2), with 5% chalk inclusions. Both daub and charcoal flecking were present. The only find was a single cattle bone.

The pit was cut into hillwash with a flat-based U profile.
