Phasing

This slot has been tentatively phased to the Anglian period, based on its association with 012AD00846. However, the only diagnostic find from the slot was a late Roman pot sherd, and it remains possible that the feature could be of an earlier date.

Discussion

This was one of a group of three roughly parallel slots (with 012AD00846 and 012AD00879). All three of the slots were cut by ditch 012AD00514. The fill was a sandy clay loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/2), with 5% chalk inclusions. A little daub and charcoal flecking was noted in the fill (though not enough to obtain samples). Only for animal bones were recovered, three cattle and a single pig bone (all leg bones).

The slot was cut into chalk, with a U-shaped profile.
