No diagnostic material culture was retrieved from this feature. Apart from being sealed by spit 012AD08743, the pit had no other stratigraphic relationships, and so remains unphased.

Discussion

This small pit contained two fills, the primary (012AD08909) being a darker sandy loam (Munsell colour 10YR 3/2), with very few (<2%) chalk inclusions. It was differentiated from the fill above by a higher charcoal content. The only finds were some fragmentary animal bones. The final fill (012AD08802) was a slightly lighter sandy loam (Munsell colour 10YR 3/3), with3% chalk inclusions (0.5-1.5cm in diameter). Some daub and charcoal flecking was noted. The fill contained only animal bones, mainly sheep/goat, although cattle and pheasant were also present.

The pit was cut into hillwash, with a steep (80-85 degrees) flat-based V-shaped profile.
