Discussion

A plough-truncated ditch cut into hillwash with a regular U-shaped profile. No finds or animal bones were recovered (2 sherds of pottery were possibly erroneously lifted under number 012AE00033, in fact part of the main surviving ditch to the north). It is likely that this is one of a sequence of recuts of enclosure ditch Master 012AE00084, although we are probably only seeing the bottom of the plough-damaged ditch. The recuts (or cleanings) were needed here because only at this point was the ditch cut into hillwash, and thus was more prone to collapse.
