Possible Pit

Discussion

This context was issued to an area of slightly darker soil (following the removal of spit 012AF00137) than the hillwash deposits to the east and further down the slope towards the centre of the valley. To the west the natural surface rises steeply, sealed by hillwash. This deposit was located some 5 metres to the south of the late Roman structure 012AF07215. Of particular note was the find of a gilded copper alloy strap end, with Salins type II beasts (dated from AD 600-650), one of only a few indicators that activity continued in this area throughout the Anglian period
