Discussion

This was a quite ephemeral feature, with edges difficult to define. Coupled with the plough truncation prevalent in this part of the site, it is likely that the slot did originally extend further in both directions. Where it does survive, it runs parallel to the much larger ditch segment 012AD00528. The fill was a sandy loam (Munsell 10YR 4/3) with 10% chalk inclusions. Some large fragments of charcoal and daub were recovered. It was cut into chalk, with a wide V-profile (although probably only the base of the feature remained).

No diagnostic material was found, although it is tentatively phased to the Middle Saxon period (based on its morphological similarity to other features of this date).
