Discussion

This feature was the eastern end of the southernmost boundary ditch, at this point oriented in an east-west alignment. The ditch was severely plough-damaged in this part of the site, where it measured 25cm at its deepest point, shallowing substantially to the east and the west. The ditch was cut into hillwash and the angular chalk natural, and had a regular V-profile. It contained only 4 objects; a flint scraper, a sherd of Samian and two 4th Century Romano-British sherds. Although not observed on the ground, there is a faint hint in the high resolution geophysics High reolution geophysics over Area 12AE that the ditch did continue on for a few metres more, in effect mirroring ditch Master 012AE00084 to the north.
