Animal Burial Pit (Modern?)

Phasing

Although no finds were recovered, the excavators believed these sheep burials to be post-Medieval in date.

Discussion

These 3 sheep skeletons were discovered during the machine excavation of this area in 1986, and were excavated immediately. Two of them (002CA00315) were in a well defined, ovate pit. They were a full grown and immature sheep placed together, presumably mother and lamb. The third (002CA00316) was just to the south, with no apparent containing cu, and disturbed.  Unusually, no record of these skeletons exits in the animal bone database.
