Pit

Phasing

The only diagnostic find was a prehistoric flint blade. The excavators believed that this feature cut through the buried soil deposit 002CB00890, although it was not seen until this material was removed (the context record is somewhat contradictory regarding the stratigraphy). It was sealed by spit 002CB00250.

Discussion

This was a small pit in the southern central part of area 2CB. It contained a single fill (002CB02178), a sandy silty loam (Munsell colour 7.5YR 3/2) with up to 10% chalk inclusions. Part of a cattle pelvis was also found.

The pit was cut into gravel with a gentle V-shaped profile.
