Pit

Phasing

The pit contained no material culture. Apart from being sealed by context 002CB00001, the feature had no other stratigraphic relationships. It was very similar in nature to 002CB02354 and 002CB02356, which were located only a few of metres to the north-west.

Discussion

This was one of three similar features, apparently within the possible round house structure (the round house itself was not visible on the ground, and was seen only using high level photography). Although apparently ovate in shape, the sectiopn demonstrates that the feaure was round and located in the south, with the northern half probable animal action. The fill was a silty loam (Munsell colour 10YR 3/2), with 5-10% chalk inclusions.

The feature was cut into chalk gravel with an almost perfect U-shaped profile.
