Surface

Discussion

A small patch of compacted chalk pebble surface, mostly made up of rounded chalk pebbles (0.5-5cm in diameter), with occasional larger chalk fragments, in a coarse sandy matrix (Munsell colour 10YR 7/3) . Although no finds were lifted under this number, the context notes indicate that broken brick and drain pipe fragments were incorporated in the surface, indicating a relatively recent origin for the surface, possibly indicating an entrance into the field.
