Pit

Phasing

The pit contained two flint blades as well as three sherds of prehistoric pottery (one unassigned, one sherd of Peterborough Ware and a LBA sherd).

Discussion

This pit was very scantily recorded, and no plan or section other than that found in the context book was drawn. There were no photographs recorded in the database, and no EDM points for either the contexts or the finds. The fill was a fine sandy loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/6). A higher rate of chalk inclusions (up to 75%) in the base when compared to the top 9cm indicates two fills rather than the single fill (002DB00231) which was recorded.

The drawing in the context book indicates a flat-based V-shaped profile, with the cut slightly steeper on the western side.
