Pit

Phasing

The feature contained no finds. It was located just to the east of a similar pit (002CB01715), and in the midst of a group of post holes (002CB07244). Apart from being sealed by spit 002CB00250, the pit had no other stratigraphic relationships.

Discussion

It is possible, considering the features location, that this is a double post hole rather than a pit, and the chalk fragments in the section indicate that they may have acted as post packing. The fill was a sandy loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/3).

The feature was cut into chalk with a wide U profile.
