Discussion
This was the last of the large, rectangular spits taken over the eastern
part of area 11BD (apart from spit 011CD05000
in 1992), and it contained the highest density of finds and animal bones
of any of the 1991 spits. The material removed varied from a sandy loam
to a sandy silty loam (Munsell colour generally 10YR 4/3, though with patches
of 10YR 3/3). The finds show definite evidence of clustering above both
the linear and localised features. Finds included one of only two human
bone fragments (location marked on plan above) found in the area (a partial
neonatal mandible), found only 3.3 metres to the north of the other human
bone fragment (a neonatal humerus fragment from spit 011BD00960).
