Discussion
This cleaning spit was located in the north-western quadrant of the area.
The material removed was a sandy loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/3). It contained
20% chalk inclusions (ranging from 0.5-6cm in diameter, although the larger
sizes were infrequent), and was equivalent to the material from spit 011BE00137
to the south. There was quite a high ratio of objects to animal bones,
most of which clustered in the western and northern parts of the excavated
area. No real definition of features was achieved, and further cleaning
was necessary.
