Discussion
This was a rectangular spit (under spit 012AC00002),
to define the individual ditches in the sequence at the north-western corner
of area 12AC. The material removed was a sandy clay loam (Munsell colour
10YR 3/3). A number of features were defined, including ditches 012AC00062,
012AC00064 and 012AC00066,
as well as slot 012AC00137. The only
object found was a late Roman pot sherd, although a number of animal bones
were recovered from the southernmost (012AC00062
and 012AC00064) ditch segments.
