Discussion

This was the third removal of the buried soil to the east of the stream channel in area 2CA, around Grubenhaus 002CA00818. It was part of the same deposit to the east, excavated as 002CB00890.  The material removed was a sandy loam, with chalk inclusions <4cm throughout (although in a higher density in the upper 10-15cm of the deposit).  One further spit of this material was excavated (002CA00893). Like the buried soil 002CA00081 to the west of the stream channel, this deposit also contained a high ratio of objects to animal bones.
