Discussion

This was a cleaning spit over all of the initially stripped area (further machine stripping to the south was carried out later in the season). Generally speaking, this spit revealed most of the features in the area, although the eastern part of the area in particular required further cleaning. Very few finds were recovered considering the area cleaned, although much of the area was chalk.
