Cremation Pit

Phasing

Discussion

The remains of a single cremation pit in the south western extension of area 11CE, there being no others visible in the surrounding area. The pit was cut into the natural sand, and was filled with a loamy sand with a fine sandy texture (Munsell colour 10/YR/53). The calcined bones were mostly found in the eastern part of the pit, perhaps indicating that they were placed in an organic container which did not survive. No objects were recovered.
