Slot

Phasing

The only diagnostic material from the feature were two Romano-British pot sherds. However, it shares an alignment with ditches 012AD00017 and 012AD00520, both of which have been phased to the Anglian or Middle Saxon periods. Apart from being sealed by spit 012AD00285, the slot had no other stratigraphic relationships.

Discussion

This was a very short excavated segment of a slot, located between ditches 012AD00017 and 012AD00520. It may have extended as far south as pit 012AD00779, but this was difficult to establish on the ground. The single fill was a sandy loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/2), with 10% chalk inclusions. Some daub and charcoal flecking were noted.

The feature was cut into solid chalk natural, and was severely plough damaged, explaoning the irregula profile.
